Abstracts

The abstracts are a recent venture, the result of attending a watercolor workshop that focused on abstract work to loosen up the realist efforts. The early works of this series are based on contour drawings of real objects which are all transferred to a single sheet of paper. This design is then enlarged using a grid system to a full 22" x 30" sheet of watercolore paper. The end result is achieved by using various colors, values, subtracting and adding shapes, using resists, salt, whatever I feel like using that can make the whole composition hold together. I find them challenging in a different way than doing realistic works.

Shape Shifter is an abstract done in acrylic paint an has some collage blended in the shapes to create some added interest. Size is 22" x 30" The selling price for this painting is $1200.00
A New Twist done on arches 140 watercolor paper. This is one of my works that used four real objects as the basis for the finished painting. The objects are obscured during the painting process are are used only to create a starting point for the abstraction. This work is all about thinking and having fun. This piece also has collage,colored pencil and magic marker incorporated in the composition. 22" x 30" Original work $1500.00.
Maiden Abstract is so named because it was the first one in this abstract series. It was created in a workshop and turned out really well. My opinion of course. It begins with four contour line drawings of real objects. Those four drawings are transfered to a single sheet of tracing paper. This then is transfered, using a grid, to the arches 140 lb. watercolor paper. Then I begin to add various color washes in various values as the work develops. Erasing. scrubbing, using resist, adding new lines, pasting on magazine sections are all involved in creating the finished work. It is all about manipulating shape, color, texture, etc, to achieve a cohesive visual buffet. I find it challenging and especially fun. Original painting 22'x 30" $1000.00.
